Meet the Birth Professionals
Brittany Furgason, Student Midwife, Doula, and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
I am a wife, mother, singer, student midwife, placenta encapsulator, birth doula, and founder of Knit Together Births living in Tacoma, WA. My husband Ian works as an installation technician with Safe Haven ADT Security. We have been married since July 2010 and have two sweet babes that are 19 months apart in age. My own births which were out of hospital, birth center births inspired me to become a birth worker in October of 2012. In January of 2015 I was accepted to the Midwives College of Utah and began formal education to become a midwife. I am currently working alongside Dawn Wadleigh and Sarah Simmons of Firstlight Midwifery Care and will be with them from January 2017 - December 2017. I previously apprenticed with with Terah Lara in Enumclaw of Foothills Midwifery from June 2015 - December 2016. I will be finished with my training by the end of 2017 and hope to be licensed and practicing by mid 2018!
Melissa Mayfield, Student Midwife, Doula, and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
Melissa says "I have been interested in birth since I was a young girl, and knew from a young age that I wanted to be a helper to women while they delivered their babies. Throughout my own personal and varied birthing experiences, my love for pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding intensified and grew. I recently moved to University Place, WA for a midwifery apprenticeship. I am hoping to serve some women in the doula, placenta encapsulator, and henna art capacity while I work my way through clinical requirements!"
